   Open the translator

   Click Translate in the sidebar.

   Choose the target language

   Under Target language, choose the language to translate into. The translator detects the source language itself.

   Add text or a file

   Paste text into the Text field, drop a file under File, or both. One file per translation is possible; the translator does not accept images.

   Start the translation

   Click Translate. Custodos opens a chat with the Translator, which starts translating straight away.

The translator knows nine target languages. German comes in two variants, because spelling and some words differ between Switzerland and Germany.

• It translates rather than answers. Questions or instructions in your text are translated too, not carried out.
• It replies with the translation only, without a preface or explanation, unless you ask for one.
• Paragraphs, lists, tables, headings and emphasis are kept.
• Figures, amounts, dates, reference numbers, links and e-mail addresses stay unchanged. So do the names of people, companies and products, unless the glossary sets a translation.
• It uses the formal register, such as Sie, vous or Lei, unless the text is clearly informal or you ask otherwise.
• If the text is already in the target language, it says so and asks which language you want.

How the translator handles a file depends on its format. Uploads follow the same limits as attaching files in chat. If the chat runs on a model without tools, the translation of an Office file also appears only as text in the chat.

Because the translation is a chat, you can keep writing, for example “more formal”, “shorter”, “use another term” or “into Italian instead”. The translator applies such messages to its last translation. Anything else you send, it translates.

The translation chat appears in your chat history like any other chat. No Brain is connected at the start; you can add one in the chat. If you share the chat and someone makes a copy, the copy carries on translating, glossary included.

In the Glossary tab, admins set how certain terms are always translated, such as product names or technical terms. The translator applies the glossary in every translation into that language, including inflected and plural forms. All members can see the glossary; only admins can edit it.

Both German variants share one glossary. If you save a term that already exists in that language, its translation is replaced. New, changed and deleted terms apply in running translation chats from the next message. Every change is recorded in the activity log.
