Document editor

The model uses the editor for text you will keep working on: concepts, reports, letters, offers, articles or plans longer than a screen. You can ask for it explicitly, for example with “Write a draft of the concept in the document”.

While the model writes, the chat shows Writing the document…, or Revising the document… for a revision. Afterwards the chat shows a card with the title and version number. Clicking the card opens the document.

You write directly in the editor. The toolbar offers Heading 1 to Heading 3, Bold, Italic, Bullet list, Numbered list, Table, Quote and Code. You change the title in the title field at the top.

The editor saves your typing automatically after a short pause. The top then shows Saving … followed by Saved. Every save becomes a new version.

   Select the text

   Select the passage in the editor that should change.

   Hand it to the chat

   Click Edit with AI. The selected passage appears as a quote in the message field, preceded by the document's title.

   Write the instruction

   Write what should change, for example “Make this shorter and more factual”, and send the message. The model revises the document, and a new version is created.

Versions lists every version of the document with its number and its author: Model or You. Older entries load with Older versions.

When you select an older version, Review before restoring opens. Under Changes you see how this version differs from the current state, marked as Added and Removed. Preview shows the version as text. For very extensive changes, Custodos shows the complete old and new text. Keep editing takes you back to the document without any change.

Restore makes the selected version the new current version. The history is kept in full, and no version is lost.

Use Download to export the document as Word (.docx), PDF or Markdown (.md). Unsaved typing is saved first, so the file matches what the editor shows. While typing is not yet saved, or cannot be saved right now, the menu also offers Download unsaved draft (.md).

   Open saving to a Brain

   Click Save to Brain in the editor.

   Choose the destination

   Under Destination Brain, choose a Brain you are allowed to add documents to.

   Save a copy

   Click Save a copy. Custodos stores a copy in the Brain and prepares it for search.

• On a computer, drag the divider between chat and editor to set the editor's width between 35 and 75 per cent. With the keyboard, use the arrow keys; a double click restores the original width. After reloading the page, the default width applies again.
• If your browser supports it, Full screen opens the editor across the whole screen.
• On a phone, the editor fills the whole screen. Close takes you back to the chat.

With every further message, the model receives the current state of your documents. For very long documents, it reads the parts it needs at that moment.

Anyone viewing a shared chat does not open documents in the editor. Through the card in the chat, they download the newest version as Word, PDF or Markdown, but they cannot edit the document. A copy of a shared chat contains only the newest version of each document. More under Sharing chats.
